03-MAR-2011-LMAT Preparation begins

First of all, let me briefly write something about LMAT. if you are aiming for a business degree i.e. MBA, you will have to appear for a very easy and simple test: GMAT. But, if you don't want to take GMAT and at the same time you want to apply for an institution called LUMS in Pakistan, you must appear for LMAT, which has exactly the same format as GMAT -- just that it's a paper-based test.

I've planned on applying for LUMS( Lahore University of Management Sciences) 2011 MBA class and for that I must appear for LMAT. Test is scheduled for 26th Feb 2011, and I must start preparing for it now -- yes enough procrastination.

I appeared for GMAT a while ago but couldn't do very well. (For the record, I scored 600.) The preparation actually helped in a way that I accumulated plenty of good study material that should help me here while preparing for LMAT.

LMAT, like GMAT, can be divided into three different parts: Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical Writing.

These three parts can further be divided into their separate respective sections:

-Verbal section can be divided into CR's( Critical Reasoning), RC's( Reading Comprehension), and SC's( Sentence Correction)

-Quantitative section comprises of Problem Solving and Data Insufficiency sections

-Analytical Writing section is different in that the applicant is given two different questions and is asked to write his response in an essay-format. In one question applicant is given a chance to take sides for or against the issue, but for the second question, he must critique the given argument.

I will prepare for the GMAT for two reasons: since format of LMAT is exactly the same as that of GMAT;and anybody can follow my preparation plan to prepare for GMAT -- although there is ample insightful, specific GMAT material on web that is lot better than what I will have to write.

Anyway, I'm going to start with revising some of English Grammar concepts to prepare for SC section of GMAT. I'll probably use following material...

• Manhattan SC Guide
• GMAT OG(Official Guide) -- 10th, 11th, and 12th version, although there are lots of overlapping questions between them I'm going to use them for practice purposes nevertheless.

In parallel to SC revision, I'll brush up some of my maths concepts. Material:

• GMAT OG's obviously
• While preparing for GMAT, I subscribed to Manhattan online tests that were pretty decent for maths preparation. Considering the time shortage, I'm going to jump right on them.
